Empowering people living in poverty through education and training.
IMPACT AREA: Equitable growth and just societies
In the communities of East Pokot and Nakuru, there are very few employment opportunities and very high levels of poverty.
The Morris Family Foundation provides support to So They Can’s Wezesha Business Skills program which provides training, mentorship and microfinance to women in those communities, enabling them to set up businesses so that they and their families can succeed.
Once the women graduate from the program, their businesses are well enough established that they are able to enter the mainstream financial system.
So They Can has founded a social enterprise called BiBi&Me that hires local women, some of whom have been through the program. The beautiful products they’ve created are available for use and purchase at the Northern Escape Collection lodges.
