Data Analyst – Carbon Accounting
(Part Time Role – .6 FTE)

At Climate Zero we understand the barriers between businesses and net zero. We know that organisations need carbon accounting software that’s accurate and easy to use with an experienced team behind it, including deep sustainability expertise.

We know this because we’ve been helping businesses measure and reduce emissions for more than 15 years via our parent company – Impact Sustainability. We’re an Australian-based company with a strong history in sustainability and software for
businesses here and overseas.

Climate Zero is our latest emissions management software, launched in December and now operating in 18 countries. Climate Zero makes it easy for organisations of any size to accurately measure and report on emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3. Our robust emissions calculation engine is built to global standards and uses a combination of activity-based and spend-based methods.

With mandatory climate reporting on the horizon, it is an invigorating time to be working in this space and we are excited to be growing our small and purpose driven team.

Joining our team is not just about a job. We are passionate about climate action and believe in making tools and resources more accessible to everyone. Our mission is to remove barriers between businesses and net zero, with quality software and sustainability expertise.

About the role

As a part time data analyst (3 days a week) you’ll join a small collaborative team where you’ll play a pivotal role in owning the end to end data quality assurance for our carbon accounting engine.

Ideally, you will have experience in carbon accounting and emission factors to take ownership of the quality and accuracy of our data sets. You will also enjoy researching and developing new features across our products to deliver value to our customers.

If you enjoy tackling quantitative problems, have a desire to work in the climate space, and are excited about working in a fast paced team, this role is for you!

What does this entail?

No day at Climate Zero is the same. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a team of experts creating solutions to help businesses make the transition to the net zero economy.

Here’s some of the things you will be responsible for:

  • Management of Climate Zero’s proprietary carbon accounting database maintaining a global set of emission factors
  • Ensuring the accuracy of all emission factors, data sets and calculations
  • Updating the database with the most recent emission factor data and continuously expanding to include new factors
  • Ensuring Climate Zero delivers enterprise grade reporting adhering to a number of different reporting frameworks
  • Performing data modelling, analytics and reporting
  • Working with product and software engineering teams to design and deliver new product features
  • Working with software engineering ahead of releases to perform quality assurance checks and testing
  • Documentation of Climate Zero’s methodology and ensuring the product delivers audit grade transparency
  • Keeping up to date with the latest data science methods globally

What we’re looking for:

  • You are data-obsessed: You are meticulous and thrive when surrounded by numbers. You are willing to roll up your sleeves to work with unstructured and inconsistent data. Experience with SQL or computer programming a bonus, but not required
  • You are an avid problem-solver: To you, an Excel model is an exciting puzzle to solve. You have the ability to think outside the box when addressing challenges
  • You are a great communicator: You have excellent verbal and written communication skills. You know when to listen and you are able to make complex problems seem simple
  • You are a team player: You prioritize the team’s success and foster collaboration in an exciting, fast-paced startup environment
  • You care about making a difference: We’re all here because we know we need climate action, now. You want that too and are committed to the cause
  • Experience working with carbon data: Experience handling energy, carbon is ideal but not essential

Qualifications & experience

  • 2+ years working in an analytical role
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Hands on experience with data visualisation tools and concepts

Or some of the above with the following:

  •  Education in environmental or sustainability science
  • Experience working in carbon emissions accounting and reporting frameworks (voluntary or regulatory) such as the GHG Protocol Corporate, Scope 2 and Scope 3 Supply Chain Standards.
  • Understanding of the corporate climate accounting and target-setting landscape, and the underlying science, its challenges and limitations.

Leave – We offer flexible public holidays so you can celebrate the things that matter to you, alongside your standard annual/sick/parental leave.

Training – We know we can only grow as a business if we invest in our people. We’ll support you to learn new skills that will help us achieve our vision.
