Orpheus Island gets MOUA dive licence

underwater museum

In October of 2020, Orpheus Island Lodge were announced as one of only five operators on the Great Barrier Reef with a dive licence to visit the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) at John Brewer Reef by internationally renowned artist Jason deCaires Taylor. Once complete MOUA will have four installations in the Townsville region, bringing tourism dollars to a region which is not traditionally known as a scuba diving location as well as bringing attention to the threats being experienced by the Great Barrier Reef. The installation at John Brewer Reef will allow exclusive access for Orpheus Island Lodge guests to be able to scuba through the majestic coral greenhouse, there will be ongoing opportunities for citizen science on the reef and coral seeding to help regenerate the reef, as the sculpture is designed for coral to grow over it.
